How to Use the New El Dorado County LOCAL Events Calendar

The new El Dorado County LOCAL Events calendar is here!
The new El Dorado County LOCAL Events calendar is here!

The Sierra & Sky website offers the opportunity see what’s going on locally, as well as in the central Sierra Nevada foothills and Sacramento region.  To that end, we host a Facebook page, El Dorado County LOCAL Events , which is very popular in keeping people up to date with what’s going on in the area.

To further expand event and volunteer opportunities, Sierra & Sky is now hosting an exciting new calendar system on its website.  We hope that you will input your events HERE (click on the + sign to Add an Event), and then you can post to Facebook or your other social networks from there.  When you post on our networked calendar, your event gets posted in approximately seven other calendars in the region – that’s eight calendars total! The more events that get posted, the more robust and user-friendly it will become. I love Grass Valley, but let’s see some more El Dorado County love and get nearby events posted.

Why post your event here?  Because our calendar is the most visual and cutting edge of any other event calendar in El Dorado County.  And – the best part – we have 3.500+ members (and growing every day) on our Facebook page.  Post here, and then push your event to the Facebook page and anywhere else on your social media, or email an event.

Our team has been working behind the scenes to post some of the events going on – but as you can imagine, that takes a lot of time and effort.  We would love to have event creators – and their volunteers and interested community members – to input the events that should be on the calendar. It’s very easy.  But, the event does have to be approved by our partner calendar site, so plan ahead.  It generally takes a couple of days to be approved and posted. You can also promote your event through our partner, to be a featured event.

Before you get started, you’ll need a photo or flyer downloaded to your computer, a description of the event, cost, and when and where details. Be SURE to add some kind of photo or flyer for your event to appeal to people.  People are visual and need something to look at.  Don’t forget to add where, when (date and time), cost, a description, and you might mention who will enjoy it.

After you input your event, you’ll get an email from our calendar partner, letting you know that they got your event, and that they will review it.  It generally takes a couple of days for the event to get posted.

You can add events from either the Home page or from the Calendar page.  Let’s get started!

The photo above shows you where you can add an event from the Home page calendar widget.  It’s a wizard, so once you click it, it walks you through the process.

Let’s go to the Calendar page and take a look at that.

Make the display suit the way you like to look at the information.  The photo above shows you a toggle where you can choose a tiled display (like Pinterest) or a list display.  Play with it, you can’t hurt it!

Change your event search range to very local, regional, or for overnight trips.

The photo above shows you how to change your search area.  Even though we are El Dorado County LOCAL Events, we like to daytrip too.  So we have set our default search to 50 miles from Placerville.  If you want to change your search to more local, or to farther away, go ahead and do it!  AND, as a bonus, because this is a NATIONWIDE networked calendar, you can even search for places you will be visiting!

Change the daily widget to see a full calendar to make it easier to see an advance date.

If you are looking forward to another month, or a particular date, the photo above shows you how to get there easier.  Planning a getaway weekend?  You might want to know what is going on it town – so that you can go to events – or, to avoid traffic!
